Update Toolkit

Update Toolkit is a command-line utility that provides four functions within a single application: Moving/Copying Files; Changing windows shortcuts; Search-replacing in the windows registry; Search-replacing text files.

Update Toolkit was created for those who need some or all of the separate functions of our Folder Synchronize, Shortcut Doctor, Registry Toolkit, and Search and Replace utilities under one command line application. For example, network managers and administrators previously had to use each application separately to make registry changes, search/replace ini files, and change .lnk's after a server migration. This can now be accomplished using a single tool, Update Toolkit.

Update Toolkit is launched with a single command line. Because no graphical user interface is involved, no special steps are required to disable a program GUI when routines are run on individual workstations. Progress meters and confirmations similar to the one to the right are available if you like but these can be easily disabled. Unlike some other 'program mover' type applications that give little control over the steps to be taken, Update Toolkit allows you to specify all aspects of operation.

Update Toolkit is controlled through scripts you develop. You can use any combination of the areas of functioning. For example, your routine can perform file copy/move/compare functions only. Or you can modify shortcuts and examine the registry but do nothing with the file or text search/replace functions. Individual scripts are used to control each domain of functioning. A fully developed routine would use 4 separate script files. All scripts are ASCII text files that you create with your text editor. They can be any name you like.

Update Toolkit is a 32 bit application for Windows 95/98/ME NT/2000/XP/2003. Please note that Update Toolkit is not a console app. Rather it is best thought of as a standard windows application, lauched solely via scripts passed on the command line, with a optional GUI made of up various optional progress dialogs and optional confirmation prompts.

	Download Now (setuput.exe) 820K	Self-install. Save this to a temporary path and run to install. C:\Tools\UpdTkt is the suggested instlallation path but any subdir will do. All files go in that subdir. No files are changed or added to 'windows' or 'system'. An Uninstall is added to Add/Remove Programs.
